An invitation

Somebody is having a child with you.

They found this, and they sent it to you.

It asks eight evenings of you.

The two of you, in a room with five other couples whose children arrive the same month as yours. Come as you are, with whatever kind of week you have had — the preparation is ours rather than yours.

The work is on the two of you.

Which is the work on your child. How the two of you are with each other becomes the weather they grow up in, and it can be learned long before they arrive.

On the last evening, you stand up.

You say a promise out loud, in your own words, to somebody who cannot yet read it. Nobody writes it for you and nobody tidies it afterwards.

And you walk out with five other couples.

Their children arrive the same month as yours. At three in the morning, when you are certain you are getting it wrong, one of them is awake too.

So — yes?

$400 for the two of you, and either of you can take the place.
